Here's the problem: those apps only show you the tourist menu. Koreans are looking at a completely different list — cheaper, better located, with deals that never even appear on the app you're using.

Why Koreans Use Different Apps
Three reasons:
- ❌ No motel category. Booking.com barely lists Korean motels (모텔), the single biggest budget cheat code in Korea. ✅ NOL has a whole motel tab.

How to use NOL — step by step
Step 1 — Download & sign up.
Get the NOL app (formerly 야놀자 / Yanolja).

- Open the app and tap the 마이 (My Page) tab — bottom right.
- Tap 로그인 또는 회원가입하기 (log in / sign up).
- Choose 애플로 시작하기 (Continue with Apple) 🍎.
- ⚠️ One catch: NOL still asks you to verify a Korean phone number. If you have an 외국인등록증 (Alien Registration Card), just use your Korean number and you're in. Perfect for exchange students, long-stay travelers, and anyone living in Korea.
Step 2 — Search your area (the translator trick).
The app is in Korean, so do this: open Google Translate, type your area in English (e.g. Hongdae, Myeongdong, Gangneung), copy the Korean, and paste it straight into the NOL search bar (검색). That's it. 🔁

Step 3 — Filter & Book
Choose your dates. Sort by price. Read recent reviews. Book. Most foreign Visa and Mastercard cards work without issues. When the form asks for your details: name in English. No Korean number? Just type anything. This form isn't verification, so don't worry about it. Take a screenshot of your confirmation and you're set.

- ✅ Prioritize location. A cheap room 40 minutes from the station isn't actually cheap.
